Eat the frog!
When it comes to getting sh*t done - we’ve all got our ways. For me personally - I have a tendency to like knocking over the small, inconsequential tasks.
This Month we are simplifying by getting clear on the big hairy FROGS in our lives and deciding to tackle them first. Like a decluttering of our To-Do list.
Here’s the thing. Most of us are ticking things off our list without EVER giving time to the bigger, more meaningful tasks that will actually change things for us, for good.
When I began an online business I would ignore the tasks that felt too time intensive because I could get so much more of the small things ticked off my list which made me think I was super productive.
But I wasn’t.
I wasn’t doing the REALLY important things.
Then my friend introduced me to a book called Eat That Frog (Brian Tracy) and it changed everything.
We would have ‘frog eating sessions’ where we would declare the frogs we were going to eat and then we couldn’t come back until they were done. Wow I pushed through a lot in those sessions, We’d set ourselves an hour, declare our frogs and see what had been achieved. If we knocked them off - we declared more frogs. It was a lesson in minimising distraction and getting super clear on priorities.
So this week, I’d love to know - what are some frogs you need to eat? Let’s use our FB group as a place to declare our frogs and get them done!
My recent frog examples include:
- Finding 2 receipts from last year for the bookkeeper (ARGGGH - the headaches this would have solved but how I resisted doing it!)
- Making an appointment for a skin check (because almost every day I would think about this and never did it)
The trick is - I don’t list everything I need to do - just two or three things. But I need to tackle them FIRST. That’s one of the things about eating frogs - the longer you look at it the harder it feels to eat it. So just eat the damn frog and move on.
You up for it?
If so declare some frogs in the FB group and report back when they are done!

NOURISH CHALLENGE
So last week we talked about eating frogs. Don’t panic - I’m not going to suggest that we literally eat frogs as part of nourish week!! But I am going to suggest that maybe you eat a metaphorical frog and just do something that you’ve been putting off when it comes to feeding your family. So often we think about making some changes to the way our family is eating, but it gets put into the “I really should try that” basket.
So this month, I’m challenging you to just do it! Eat that frog and try something new that you haven’t tried before. Here are a few suggestions from the Vault:
Want to add some more legumes to your meals, but you’re unsure how your family will react? Try adding them to something you know they’ll already accept. The Sausage and Lentil Hot Pot is a perfect winter dish. The kids will love the sausages, and maybe along the way they’ll decide the lentils aren’t too bad either. Or just eat the whole frog by ditching the meat and go for some Veggie and Bean Burgers using Katherine’s tried and tested formula.
Always wanted to try making your own baked beans instead of relying on the canned variety? Then go ahead. It’s a lot easier and quicker you think, and once you taste them you’ll wonder why you put it off for so long. View the recipe here.
Or maybe the tough part about family meals is the end of the day tiredness that saps your motivation and energy to cook. Getting a meal into the slow cooker in the morning is the best way to eat that dinner frog. Here are some of our favourites from the Vault:
> Creamy Chicken, Leek and Pumpkin Casserole
Let us know what you try by sharing in the FB group.

ENERGY
This week we are focusing on your energy - how you use it, whether you conserve it and prioritising it.
I’d love you to watch this video - it’s a short one - but I ask you some very important questions.
I think we need to completely reframe our conversation on energy. Because how much in your life relies on you having the energy to do things? How many times do you berate yourself that you are out of energy? You are NOT alone if it’s a lot!
I recorded this video on the floor, moments after a very revealing conversation I had online in 2018. I wanted to capture in that moment the breakthrough I’d had about energy so I could share it with you in our Enjoy week. I’m bringing it back out now, because now more than ever we need to choose where we focus our energy.
Remember that this week is all about little mindset shifts that can help you take small steps towards a life you enjoy - love - LIVE FOR!
So I’d love to know what you think after you’ve watched the video. Challenge yourself to write out your initial responses on a notepad. Just journal out an answer to -
Are you conserving your energy for the things that matter?
Celebrate
Big news, please read!
I began this Membership program as a way to maintain connection and community for women who had completed my Small Steps to Wholefoods program (currently sitting inside the Membership as The Food Series).
I believe fully and whole-heartedly that our gentle, encouraging and brain-based method for creating change around lifestyle habits is a good one. I have witnessed transformation in thousands of women over the years and it has been the pleasure of a lifetime.
And yet, it is time for the Small Steps Membership to go into retirement.
November will be our last month (OMG you wait until you see what’s going to be happening in that final month - get ready to party - get ready for a free month - get ready to see lots of old faces and bring this baby home in a huge way!)
The team and I have a lot planned for our final few months together - you will be so glad you’re here for it.
And I want you to know that we are working hard behind the scenes to make sure all your payments are adjusted to reflect the remaining time of your subscription.
This community, this work, it has been my life since 2014. It has grown me, given me purpose and taught me so many lessons. But the best thing about it?
You.
It’s the women inside that have MADE this space. It’s your energy and enthusiasm and your willingness to take small steps. You created this.
So we are going out with a bang and a huge celebration of YOU!
Buckle up, the next few months are going to be fabulous.
Now, it’s come to my attention that a Small Stepper who has been a ridiculously generous sharer, cheerleader and advocate has NEVER been our Member of the Month. The team and I all scratched our heads and went through the archives to make sure it was correct, and in a massive oversight, we have never celebrated the one and only Amie Kalleske.
Amie - forgive us! You are a true superstar of this space and I cannot even imagine how many women have benefited from your kindness, your authenticity and your growth over the years. THANK YOU for everything you are - we adore you!
