Another little bonus…
Defining your Values
Always take a stand for yourself, your values. You're defined by what you stand for" - Oprah
Ten years ago if someone asked me what I valued I would have said, good coffee and sleep in’s.
Oh how life has changed and how I didn’t understand the concept of values.
Switch to today and I think of values as principles that help guide my behaviour. They are fundamental beliefs that help me choose one thing over another.
So if I value simplicity, it helps me choose NOT to over consume at the Boxing Day sales, filling my house with junk. It also helps me feel strong in the decision not to include my kids in all the after school activities.
When social media, friends and family express ideas on what I ‘should’ be doing - I hold strong to my decisions and direction because I’m clear on my values and what defines a good life.
Values are highly individual. How sad if they weren’t and we were all the same….
Oprah is right - not only are you defined by what you stand for - your life is a mirror of what you stand for. And the more clearly we can define our values, the easier it is to create a life around them.
Your little bonus exercise before the course begins is to Define your Values. It’s the first step in getting Back to You.
Here’s what you do:
Scan the list below and write down any that feel meaningful to you.
Then whittle them down (the list is not exhaustive - there’s hundreds to choose from if you have a little google!)
Choose your top 10 and write them in your worksheet. Download here
And then rate them in level of importance.
Reflect on your list. Is your life a reflection of these values?
Feel free to share your values and reflections in the Facebook Group.
As a little bonus listening - this interview with Sarah Hausler on the podcast is a WINNER - the way she describes how we compare our values in social media is something that has never left me.
