It’s more than a feeling
How you feel is dependent on the thoughts you think. How you feel is a CHOICE!
As a mother of three kids, four and under, at the time I read Danielle LaPorte’s book about choosing a ‘core desired feeling’, I thought she was talking from a very privileged place.
“I don’t have a choice about how I feel - I am here to make sure everyone else feels good”.
“Easy for her to say! I want to feel relaxed - but there’s nothing relaxing about this constant and monotonous routine where everyone wants a piece of me. If I could stop, I would!”
Don’t we put up ridiculous barriers and stories around feeling a certain way?
This exercise is about way more than choosing a feeling - it’s choosing YOU!
So let’s brainstorm.
How do you want to FEEL? How do you want to move through your days?
What might it mean for you to be guided by that in your decision making?
When you download your worksheet you’ll see that you cannot choose ALL the feelings! So let’s try and whittle things down.
Just like with the Values exercise I have given you a list of examples you can draw on below. It might be helpful to write down any feelings that capture your attention, then come back and reflect and see which ones really stand out.
Once you get clear on how you want to feel - and it could just be as simple as feeling HAPPY - each day you can use this to guide your decisions. Does doing this or that take you closer to feeling happy. Does saying yes or no take you closer to feeling happy? Does spending time with this person or that person make you feel happy?
Your feeling/s of choice are a powerful statement you can make to yourself about what you deserve in your life. And I want you to know it’s completely possible.
Choose a few core feelings from the list below and commit to thinking every morning about them. Seek them out in our routine. Make decisions so that you can feel them more. Live these feelings. Be unapologetic about it!
